To: 10TT 10RW and 11English
Thanks for all your hard work. Next term Year 11s will be in for some serious revision - brushing up on response writing will be a major focus. Year 10 classes will be doing a mixture of film making, performance, some will do poetry and some will be doing latin!

Thanks to all of you who have used this site to express your sensible and constuctive ideas.
Have a great and happy holiday.

9NR Short Stories 2007

We've read lots of short stories this year. Which one can you remember the best? Tell me why you remember it the best? What was MEMORABLE? I was most pleased with the way you all handled The Bet.

"Everyone cheats." 10TT 10RW

"Everyone cheats. I just didn't know."

Who says this in Breaking Away?

Who is he talking about?

Do you think he is right?

Why is this an important moment in the film?

Visual and Verbal Techniques/Features

Some great responses to Looking for Alibrandi. One thing I would like you all to keep in mind is to be very specific when referring to visual and verbal features. In the scene where Michael and Josephine come face to face the visual feature is simply a mid shot which is the most frequently used shot to show emotion/reaction. The verbal features are dialogue, voice over and music. It is not sufficient to say verbal and visual features are used to show this. Do make sure you distinguish between voice over and dialogue. Keep writing it's fabulous to read your responses expressing an excellent depth of understanding.

Born on the wrong side of the tracks

What does this mean? Use the Greasers as your example. Is it possible to leap the track in real life?

Alibrandi - Jacob Coote

What was Jacob Coote's appeal to Josephine?

Alibrandi - John Barton

Was John Barton attainable for Josie?

11 Eng Looking for Alibrandi - Josephine

Write a couple of lines explaining how the character of Josephine is initially established at the beginning of the film or choose Sister Louise to describe. Don't forget to refer to both visual and verbal features.

10RW 10TT The Outsiders - Characterisation

You can tell a lot about a character by the way they dress and the way they present themselves. What can you tell about Steve from this photograph?
